Warning: major spoilers ahead for Emily in Paris season 4.
Emily in Paris season 4 part 2 seems like it just arrived, and now season 5 is s'approche à grands pas. (Or, it is fastly approaching, if you haven't brushed up on your French. Make sure you brush up on your Italian, next!) Your favorite stylish expat, Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, is officially returning to Netflix for the fifth chapter of her adventure and taking on a brand-new European city.
Emily in Paris is surprisingly one of the most divisive comedies of the past few years. The series follows the titular Emily, a marketing executive from Chicago, as she unexpectedly becomes a Paris transplant when she's hired to offer an American perspective for the fictional French firm Savoir. The show has been celebrated for its warmth, charm, and incredible fashion moments, and also criticized for its rose-colored and sometimes stereotypical portrayal of France and Parisians. Despite its mixed reviews, Emily in Paris season 4 ranked no. 1 on the Netflix Global Top 10 when it debuted on the streamer in August 2024, reaching nearly 20 million views in its first four days.
Whether you hate to love Emily or love to hate her, there's no denying that the upcoming fifth season of the show will be its juiciest yet. Luckily for you, we've collected everything we know so far about Emily in Paris season 5 below, including cast updates, plot details, trailer, and so much more. Ready? Oui! Or should we say sì? While speaking to Netflix's Tudum, the show's creator, Darren Star, said he is “thrilled” to “continue Emily’s adventures in Rome and Paris.” With season 4 ending with a new Italian romance, a new Italian office, and a new Italian apartment, Star confirms that Emily is absolutely cementing a “presence in Rome.” “It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris," explained Star, “But she’s going to have a presence in Rome.”
While some fans are pleased to see Emily in a new environment, not everyone is pleased with the move. Case in point: French President Emmanuel Macron. In an interview with Variety, President Macron admitted France “will fight hard” to bring Emily back to Paris. “We will ask them to remain in Paris! Emily in Paris in Rome doesn‘t make sense,” he added.
The French President also opened up about his wife's cameo in the show's fourth season, saying: “I was super proud, and she was very happy to do it. It’s just a few minutes, but I think it was a very good moment for her. I think it’s good for the image of France. Emily in Paris is super positive in terms of attractiveness for the country. For my own business, it’s a very good initiative.”

There was much debate when it was announced that season 5 would be filming in Rome before returning to Paris, and, as it turns out, the show is also filming in a different third location. As reported by Variety, Emily in Paris season 5 will also be shooting in Venice, Italy, as confirmed by the governor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia.
“This is extraordinary news, confirming how our region is increasingly attractive for major global audiovisual productions,” Zaia said in a statement to the Italian press. "“It’s a source of pride to see Venetian talent promoting their region and bringing the name of Venice and the Veneto to millions of homes around the world,” he continued, adding that director Andrew Fleming is scouting locations at the moment, aided by the Northern Italian region’s Veneto Film Commission and Venice-based production company 360 Degrees Film. Filming in Venice will reportedly take place from August 5–15, 2025.
Who is in the cast of Emily in Paris season 5?
At first, it was expected that most of the season 4 cast would be returning for season 5 — this included leading lady Lily Collins, Ashley Park (who plays Mindy), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), and Camille Razat (Camille).
However, on April 23, 2025, Razat shared a heartfelt post to Instagram announcing her departure from the show ahead of its fifth season. “After an incredible journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris,” Razat captioned a carousel of photos with her castmates, including Collins, Park, and Bravo. “It has been a truly wonderful experience, one filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable memories.”
Razat thanked Netflix and the crew behind the show for their “trust," and hinted that while she may not be a part of season 5's story, there may be potential for her character to return, thanks to the creative team “leaving the door open for her return.”
“This character has meant a lot to me, and I feel that her storyline has naturally come to an end. It felt like the right moment to explore new horizons,” Razat wrote, noting that she just recently launched her own production company and also wrapped production on two upcoming series, Nero and The Lost Station Girls. “I leave the show with nothing but love and admiration for the cast, crew, and fans who have supported us along the way. Thank you for the beautiful ride.”

Though this news is heartbreaking, it's comforting to know that we'll see the return of recurring cast members Lucien Laviscount (Alfie), Thalia Besson (Genevieve), Samuel Arnold (Julien), and Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), and the addition of Eugenio Franceschini, who plays Emily's newest love interest Marcello Muratori. Paul Forman and Arnaud Binard will also return as Laurent G and Nico, respectively
Another cast member who won't be returning for season 5 is Rupert Everett, who guest-starred as fashion designer Giorgio Barbieri in the season 4 finale. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Everett said he didn't receive a call to return for season 5, despite having his hopes up.
“I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, ‘Next year we’ll speak,’” Everett said. “I waited for them to call me — but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me … For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn’t get over it.” Teen Vogue reached out to Netflix for further clarification about Everett's comments but did not immediately hear back.
New cast members for season 5 include Michèle Laroque and Bryan Greenberg. Laroque will play Yvette, an old friend of Sylvie’s, while Greenberg will play Jake, an American living in Paris. Academy Award-nominated actor Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting, Will & Grace) also joins the cast as Princess Jane, who's described as “a friend of Sylvie’s who married into a royal family.”
What will Emily in Paris season 5 be about?
Emily in Paris season 4 ended with Sylvie asking Emily to lead the Agence Grateau's new Rome office, Mindy en route to Shanghai to face her past and serve as a judge on Chinese Popstar, Camille taking on single motherhood and adoption, and Gabriel headed to Rome to get the “greatest girl in the world” back. (Shout out to Alfie!) But it won't be that easy, because said girl is already wrapped up in a new romance with Marcello and embracing a fresh start in Italy.
“Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,” Lily Collins said of her character's new beau while speaking to Tudum. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”
Series creator Darren Star agrees, emphasizing the “real spark” between the two characters. “I feel like they have… a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season," he said to the Netflix blog. But is Gabriel endgame? After so much back-and-forth over the span of seasons 3 and 4, Gabriel's epiphany could throw a wrench in Emily's happiness. “Unfortunately, Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice," Collins says, predicting a very bumpy ride to Rome for the chef.
