Why Young People Are Turning Up to the Polls
Released on 07/10/2018
We are here in front of the Tom's activation booth
where we are encouraging young people to go
and register to vote so that in the coming elections
they can have their voice heard.
Our vote every single time has a purpose,
and it can lead to creating more diversity in congress.
The ability to vote now is more important
than it's ever been before.
You going out, and acting, and voting
is a form of speaking up.
You want you to count in all the decisions
that are made in our country.
If you don't take the opportunity to go vote,
then you miss out on that chance to make your voice heard.
The new generation really understands our responsibility
to change the direction that our country is heading in.
It's really important that I exercise
the rights that I have, specifically with voting,
that my ancestors made possible for me.
DACA recipients cannot vote .
So we need others to give us a voice.
What really inspires me is this upcoming generation
because they're the ones that are really looking
for a better tomorrow.
It's not about sides.
It's about what issue you're on.
Making sure that we have legislators who are women,
who know what it's like to be a woman,
what it's like to have a woman's body.
Putting policies in place to protect LGBTQ youth.
To fight for my family and my community.
The environment, because not only is it going to affect
what the future is like, it affects people around the world.
It's our responsibility to not only
change the direction of our community,
but to overall make our world a better place.
Get it kind of ingrained in your DNA
that this is just something you do.
You vote.
You're a voter.
You're participating in democracy.
Make it a habit.
