If you are looking for a sneaker to make your signature in the coming months, you might want to take a page from Stray Kids, Manon, and Jennie Kim and give the classic adidas Superstar silhouette a try.

Though the adidas Gazelle and Samba have been the trendiest style by the German sports giant for more than a couple of seasons now, the Superstar, first launched in 1970, is also slowly but surely rising in the popularity ranks with cosigns from some of our favorite celebrities.

As sneaker trends gravitate away from platforms and towards flatter, simpler styles, we have seen taekwondo- and soccer-inspired silhouettes take over street style. However, the adidas Superstar is coming in hot as a middle ground option for those hesitant to embrace the thin-soled life.

According to trend-spotting and shopping platform Lyst, searches for adidas Superstar sneakers are up 4% in the last month (June-July), with the most wanted styles falling in the black colorway, either black with the white stripes or all black. Those styles are followed by the black Ripple NSRC model, and the vegan Superearth collaboration with Sean Wotherspoon, which remains popular after its release in 2020.

A sign of a rising style, plenty of Stray Kids members have given adidas Superstars their stamp of approval during their world tour <dominATE> across the US and Europe. Member Felix, who seems to be on an adidas kick at the moment, was seen favoring the white model with black stripes during multiple stops of the group's tour, even partaking in a dance challenge with the classic style on foot.

Fellow members Hyunjin and Seugmin have also favored the same colorway across multiple stops, with Hyunjin also adding to his collection the vintage white shelltoe with black body style, as well as the more exclusive red-stripped adidas Superstar Modified in collaboration with Avavav.

KATSEYE's Manon is also a fan of the style, having been spotted wearing a black pair in between sets at Lollapalooza 2025. Earlier this summer, BLACKPINK's Jennie Kim, a long-time ambassador of the brand, also served as the face of a July 2025 campaign celebrating the timelessness of the shoe.

“The Superstar has always been more than just a sneaker — it’s a symbol of self-expression," Annie Barrett, VP of marketing at adidas Originals, tells Teen Vogue. “It started on the courts in basketball, but it has been adopted and reimagined through many genres and subcultures, from music to skate to streetwear and fashion. It’s been part of people’s lives for decades, worn by those who carve their own path.”

Though Barrett notes the brand has also been noticing a resurgence in interest for the style, she's quick to note the style never truly went away. “It’s one of those sneakers that’s always had a presence — whether it’s on stage, in the skate scene, or as a staple in everyday wardrobes around the world.”

Over the past few seasons, classic sneaker styles have been coming back in waves, from the Nike Cortez to the Vans Authentic, and it seems like the adidas Superstar is following in suit. In that regard, adidas' new campaign, shot by Thibaut Grevet, couldn't have been better timed.

“We wanted to celebrate originality through our most iconic sneaker, one that has stood the test of time and has been embraced by countless creatives across many generations,” Barrett notes. “We wanted to draw attention to the simplicity and beauty of the Superstar. The iconic shelltoe and striking black-and-white silhouette were emphasized through a creative expression that is both distinct and versatile, allowing us to pair an iconic shoe with iconic masters of creativity across music, fashion, sport, and film [like] Samuel L. Jackson, Missy Elliott, Mark Gonzales, Anthony Edwards, GloRilla, Teezo Touchdown, Jennie, and Gabbriette.”
